I would like to share with you my thoughts about the Chengdu Biennale.

The Biannale in Chengdu was quite interesting to see, but as many of the Chinese organized big exhibitions (including the Triennale in Nanjing) was very roughly organized, due to the short time they had for the preparations.
The main sponsor of the exhibition decided 3 months ago to make it, so you can imagine the results. And also the venue surprised everyone: in a newly build and not yet finished commercial center outside the city, called New Millennium, outside the exhibition space a Beer Festival was taking place.
Inside a loud music was on, and a fashion show. A huge hangar was turned into an art fair, and quite a low degree one, that was the first impression.
I came back there a second time, and it was different: all the works were finished and installed, and it gave me a better feeling.

From the point of view of the exhibited artworks, everyone is on the same
opinion: almost all the works of the more famous artists were old works, exhibited many times. There were only few good works from young artists, that I think are quite good. Only a pre-catalog was published, the real catalog will be ready for the end of the year. The other thing that people from the art circle were talking about is that this year at the Biennale mostly came representatives of galleries, it was basically a Gallery Biennale, everyone looking for some new talents.

Speaking about talents, I collected some materials from my visit to the artist village in Chengdu, and when we meet again, I would like to introduce you some.
